| Corrosion protection in non-ferrous metall winning plants
Innovative developments in materials and lining technologies have made Steuler one of the leading providers of corrosion protection for non-ferrous metal extraction plants.
From research and development to consulting, construction and production, installation and service, Steuler offers complete solutions for all areas in the plant and every production process. Experienced specialist installers and supervisors also use such specified systems and processing technologies as spray-on linings that assure that a project is executed rapidly and cost-effectively.
With competency and experience, Steuler sees to it that equipment, process tanks and apparatuses but also operational surfaces fulfil their functions economically over the long term. Together with its international branch offices and representatives, Steuler executes each project so that it will meet the demands placed upon it.
Competent lining technology assures plant availability and operational safety in metal extraction, gas purification and acid production over the long term. We deliver and install acid resistant, refractory lining systems and equipment and components made of duroplastics and thermoplastics for all areas in a plant.

Roasting, melting and casting
Steuler Refractory Systems designs, produces and supplies a wide variety of materials for the non-ferrous metal industry, e.g. for the lining of copper and aluminium melting and treatment furnaces. These materials are required to be resistant not only to thermal stress but also to severe abrasive and chemical attack.
We deliver and install refractory linings for: • Shaft furnaces • Electric arc furnaces • Melting furnaces/Holding furnaces/Casting furnaces • Crucible furnaces • Transport vessels • Roasting furnaces/Melting furnaces/Sulphur combustion furnaces
Refractory brick linings from our own workshops that are also capable of withstanding extreme chemical loads are used in roasting and melting furnaces as well as in sulphur combustion chambers in non-ferrous metal extraction plants. Refractory materials and engineering made by Steuler are field-proven in this sector.
High-quality materials for wear linings, fireclay qualities for permanent linings and insulating materials in suitable grades and shapes are also in use in this sector. The bricks for wear and permanent linings are available as machine-pressed standard shapes or as hand-rammed specially shaped qualities.
Leaching and purification
We deliver corrosion protection systems for such a variety of processes as solvent extraction, direct processing and atmospheric processing, as well as for autoclaves and pressure tanks for high-pressure processing.
Linings, rubber membranes and brick and tile linings are used in storage and processing tanks, reactors and concentrators and stirring tanks, but also in autoclaves and pressurised tanks. Steuler selects the materials suitable for these applications on the basis of the requirements the process places on temperature and chemical load. Steuler can even plan and execute specifically detailed solutions for such components as bulwarks, sealing surfaces or overflow trenches. Steuler offers sprayable, monolithic, leak-proof membranes on a polyurethane base, ceramic brick and tile with acid resistant and refractory materials und mechanically anchored thermoplastic linings for tanks and concentrators.
Metal extraction and metal refining
Steuler has been using mechanically anchored thermoplastic linings in concrete construction for more than 30 years now. Used in electrolytic cells, the excellent chemical, thermal and mechanical resistance of the material is securely combined with the static properties of the concrete.
Due to the special configuration of the T-elements, a large number of units can be installed on one surface, and with the bond to the reinforced concrete as its static load-bearing support, there are hardly any limits to the possible dimensions for the cell. The T-elements, which are welded together, create a homogeneous, closed unit, and such added components as overflow boxes or pipes can be easily welded onto the lining.
The material properties of the thermoplastic lining are also used to safely line tanks, coolers, pipes, basins and channels in electrolytic processing and in gas outlets.

Lining systems and components for gas scrubbing and acid production
Venturis or quenchers are used to cool roasting gases or gases from sulphur furnaces, prepare the gas stream for further filtering steps and also eliminate impurities and solids.
Steuler is also an experienced partner for brick and tile masonry on drying and absorption towers in sulphuric acid production. Field-proven insulation and masonry but also free-standing Steuler domed grids for holding the ceramic tower packing are also available. For the high temperatures encountered in converters or other special areas, Steuler delivers refractory brick grades and cements from its own production. With many years of experience in the field with different plants and production process, Steuler can take over the entire engineering, material delivery and assembly as a turnkey provider for industrial corrosion protection. High gas temperatures, sulphur compounds and highly aggressive hydrofluoric acid require properly matched lining materials and experience in detailed engineering for each of the different steps and critical areas in the plant such as the inflow and outflow muffs.
Steuler also constructs and delivers components made of thermoplastics for wet electro-filters in downstream purification processes.
Industrial flooring and linings for all areas in a plant
Industrial flooring in metal extraction plants have to meet a number of demands. They serve to protect the substrate from wear-and-tear and contamination but also to keep aggressive media and hazardous materials from penetrating into the foundation of the plant and the structural components of the halls. Long-term resistance to mechanical, thermal and chemical loads is especially important for the service life of plant and equipment.
For heavy vehicle traffic, scratching by sharp metal components in production or during maintenance, an additional tile lining can increase the service life of operational surface and areas throughout the plant. Even if highly concentrated chemicals or aggressive materials cannot be constantly removed from pits, trenches or in direct proximity of the plant, acid-resistant tile and shaped brick can still offer the best in safety. Field-proven solutions for expansion joints and trenches, but also the sealing details for foundation pedestals and hall constructions, round out the various flooring systems Steuler can offer.
