The pleasure is all mine.
You could say that it was a chain of lucky coincidences.
I tried my hand at mathematics and computer science after my A-levels, but found the theory far too tedious and didn't see my future here. I then looked at a few companies, but by the spring it was already too late for an apprenticeship in the same year. At the time, Steuler had a vacancy for an apprenticeship as an IT clerk, as an applicant who had already been selected had dropped out - luckily for me! After an initial meeting and trial work, I was sure that I had landed in the right company. After that, everything went very quickly: I was able to support the IT department before the official start of the apprenticeship and began my training in the fall of 2010.
Right from the start of my apprenticeship, I felt that I was in good hands thanks to the direct involvement in everyday working life, the good cooperation with my colleagues and the trainee events.
The opportunity to take part in the first trainee development program and the appointment as team leader showed me once again that I am valued as an important part of the community.
I was always encouraged at Steuler.
This even motivated me to complete a part-time degree after my successful apprenticeship in order to further deepen my knowledge. I consider the trainee development program and my start as a team leader not only as my personal milestones in terms of integration into the company, but also as formative for my career.
The support and encouragement I received for this have helped me enormously in my professional development.
Going through a degree course alongside my job and finishing as one of the best in my year was definitely a challenge and took a lot of energy. I now look back on it as one of the most instructive parts of my professional life.
As a team leader, I still experience challenges in the team, in my daily work or due to external influences. Nevertheless, I never tire of promoting team spirit, motivating my colleagues and growing together with them so that we as IT can support the company in the best possible way.
I actually see Steuler as a kind of second family and that's mainly because here you get to know the person behind a name or a job and deal with each other very openly - no matter what position you start in. Even during your training, you pass through many departments and come into contact with a wide variety of people who are all very helpful. There is a lot of scope for free design and development as well as a high degree of flexibility, which makes the team spirit and the company community so special.
I would never have expected that I would go back to university - after literally escaping from a tiring degree course - and that I would also develop into a manager. At the same time, I was able to experience a change in the internal IT management culture, which gave us an openness to new technologies and processes and promoted cooperation within the team.
To this day, I am also positively surprised by the freedom to help shape things, which I value so much: From creating intranet and newspaper articles, training videos and process optimizations to the selection of hardware and software - I am allowed to contribute a part of myself and my expertise everywhere.
This personal story is one of many special people who have made Steuler what it is today.
