The donation was initiated by Leon Schwickert, IT Services Team Leader at Steuler and a former student of the high school. It was particularly the computer science classes in high school that sparked his interest in IT back then. This ultimately led to a dual degree program in business informatics at Steuler. When an opportunity arose in the IT department to repurpose high-performance computers (that were no longer usable at workstations), Leon Schwickert thought of his former school.
Through his contact with the current principal, Martin Zimmermann, the need was quickly identified. After consultation with the school board and approval by the Westerwald district, the donation was made to the school’s booster club.
At Mons-Tabor-Gymnasium, the computers will primarily be used in computer science classes, which will soon begin as early as 7th grade. The school currently has three fully equipped computer labs, but students often have to share a single computer. The additional computers will make individual workstations available more frequently in the future.
